SuperUtes
Featured this year is the supporting East Coast Bullbars SuperUtes Series. SuperUtes will storm onto the circuit in 2018, representing a whole new automotive segment on-track. Replacing the traditional V8 Utes, this next era of Ute racing, dual-cab, turbo diesel machines are set to give the 2018 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship an exciting new feel. Making their debut at the Adelaide 500, the Holden Colorado, Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mitsibushi Triton, Mazda BT-50 and Isuzu D-Max form this exhilarating line-up.
Carrera Cup
Also kicking off the festival is the Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia. As one of the region’s best sports car series, Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia is set for a bumper season in 2018; one that will see new cars, new tracks and a fully subscribed field of Pro and Pro-Am racers. One of the key drawcards to the 2018 season is the introduction of the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. Born on the 911 production line in Stuttgart, the second-generation 991 series 911 race car made its track debut in 2017 in Europe and North America before Australia adopted the new race-bred 911 in 2018. The new 911 is faster, safety and more affordable than its predecessor, improving the overall racing experience for Porsche’s teams, drivers and fans trackside.
Aussie Racing Cars
Always a crowd favourite, the Aussie Racing Cars will be back in 2018. Despite their small size these cars have a lot of power, boasting a 1.2 litre, 125bhp, twin-cam, 16 valve engine that revs to 11500rpm. Their favourable power to weight ratio brings fast-paced action with maximum speeds in excess of 200kph. As one of Australia’s most popular motor sport categories, the Aussie Racing Cars are set to bring another exciting year of racing!
V8 Series
The Kumho Tyre Australian V8 Touring Car Series provides a competition home for genuine ex-V8 Supercars. Many of the cars are historically significant race cars with an increasing number running in original livery, and fans can identify with their successes in the hands of some of the sport’s greatest drivers and teams. The drivers are a mixture of the next ‘up and coming’ stars of the series, to experienced hands who have stepped away from professional driving, and enthusiastic amateurs keen to be involved in the sport. The result of this mixture is highly entertaining racing throughout the field. Many of the cars are run by professional teams with considerable experience in the sport, including Brad Jones Racing, Eggleston Motorsport, Matt Stone Racing, Image Racing, MW Motorsport and more. The Kumho V8s are crowd pleasers: Real Holden & Ford racing with an eclectic mix of cars and drivers, and a ‘where have these guys been’ factor!
