GOLD COAST MARATHON June 30 – July 1
This IAAF Road Race Gold Label event features a marathon, half marathon, 10km run, 5.7km challenge and junior dash races for the kids over 4km and 2km. More than 25,000 people from around the world are set to participate in 2018 and lap up the magnificent running climate, as well as the flat, fast and beautiful course that runs alongside the Pacific Ocean.

MARINE BIOLOGIST FIELD DAY July 4
Be a marine biologist for a day and learn what is involved in their day to day job. Ask our in-house marine biologist questions about our mini marine life and mangroves and learn to dig a turtle’s nest and investigate microorganisms under a microscope. Ages from 7 years and up. TWILIGHT EXPERIENCE AT DAVID FLEAY July 12-14
Visit David Fleay Wildlife Park these holidays and experience one of the oldest living cultures in the world—that of the Yugambeh Aboriginal people. These holidays they’ll open after dark for you to enjoy a Jellurgal cultural experience and Park Ranger wildlife presentation. You can also explore the wildlife park and find out what their Australian wildlife get up to at night. The Nocturnal House will be a hive of activity with the platypus, mahogany gliders and greater bilbies. In the Ring Dam look for the red eyes of the crocodiles under the lights and then wander to the rainforest to see the cassowaries feeding. Night time is when the koalas are also most active. KOKODA CHALLENGE July 14-15
The Kokoda Challenge will once again be coming to the Gold Coast in 2018, register now for the 96-kilometre event. This course is a bucket list item to tick off, as it’s referred to as the toughest team endurance event in Australia: 96 kilometres of winding tracks through the Gold Coast hinterland, 5,000 metres of vertical elevation to climb (and descend!) including 14 checkpoints to get through. It’s time to prove to yourself that you can go above and beyond what you think your limits are and do something truly extraordinary. All fundraising and donations from the event go towards our Youth Programs, with the principles of courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice we transform the lives of hundreds of teens each year.

Viva Surfers Paradise is back as they pay tribute to the life and music of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley with 50s and 60s fun all week long! At this festival, enjoy live performances, dancing, classic cars, the annual renewal of the vows ceremony and, of course, a preliminary round of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest. The winner will advance to the Semifinal Round during Elvis Week in Memphis, Tennessee.

July’s Entrepreneur of the month is James Gilmore. Gilmour Space Technologies is an Australian launch provider, based in Queensland and Singapore, that’s developing and launching low-cost hybrid rockets for the fast-growing global small satellite industry. Founded by brothers James and Adam Gilmour, their mission is to “provide low-cost access to space.”
