ARTLAB I ILLUSTRATION FOR KIDS WITH SAM OYELOWO
In this session you’ll experiment with different mark making techniques and textures to draw everyday objects with feeling and spark.
Sam, a British illustrator, has worked for big name studios like Disney, Marvel and Paramount as a concept and storyboard artist – including Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker and Thor: Ragnarök.
Now based on the Gold Coast, Sam has also had a long career in advertising and design – but has always just loved to draw.
In ArtLab, kids 5-16 years can explore big ideas while working with a professional artist to create an artwork to take home. In the workshop kids will learn about different materials, practice and skills through activities responding to current exhibitions and the Gallery at HOTA collection.
ArtLab caters for older creative kids with two sessions tailored for 5-10 years and 11-16 years.
Spaces are limited, please book early to avoid disappointment.
All children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

LITTLE ARTLAB I TEXTURE COLLECTORS
In this session, we’ll take a journey along the paths and walls of HOTA to uncover patterns, lines and shapes that we can feel.
Collecting them as you go, you’ll learn how to turn these textures into something you can see, keep and share on paper.
Every Little ArtLab we like to share gulgun from the Yugumbeh language. If you speak a language other than English, please feel free to share your words during each Little ArtLab.
Little ArtLab provides hands-on creative fun with art activities designed for kids under 5 to enjoy with their parents and carers. Little ones can experiment, play, and create with art-based activities inspired by the Gallery at HOTA collection and current exhibitions.
Spaces are limited, please book early to avoid disappointment.
